SMOKEFREE: Hull and East Riding

STOP SMOKING SERVICE - 0800 915 59 59

Stop Smoking Services

Stop Smoking sessions are run throughout Hull and East Riding in GP surgeries, hospitals and community centres. The service is comprehensive and successful, with over 65% of clients stopping smoking.

Our expertise can be brought in to the workplace to help staff to stop smoking, which is especially helpful if there are changes to smoking policies at work.

Courses run for 6 weeks, for approximately 1 hour per week and can include up to 12 clients. No charge is made and we try to arrange times which will best suit the employer (e.g. over lunch breaks). In addition, clients are able to obtain Nicotine Replacement Products (NRT) like patches or gum free of charge to help with cravings, other stop smoking medication is also available on prescription.

Staff wanting to attend should be committed to stopping smoking, but not already stopped. Each session is informal and includes some group discussion as mutual support is very helpful. Topics covered briefly include:

  • Week one – Preparation: Clients are asked to complete a ‘smoker’s diary’ and start to break habits. Some people may choose to set a quit date straight away.
  • Week Two – Discussion and practical help: Therapies/medication are discussed.
  • Week Three – Quit dates are set if they haven’t been already: Habits discussed and possible withdrawal symptoms dealt with.
  • Week Four – Stressful situations: How to cope.
  • Week Five – Weight gain worries: Healthy eating and exercise.
  • Week Six – Coping in the long term: Successful quitters receive a Certificate of Achievement.

We are happy to discuss individual needs with employers. If you would like an informal discussion please telephone 01482 617871 and ask for the Workplace Specialist or contact us online.
