The Hull and East Riding Stop Smoking Service

Stop Smoking sessions are run throughout Hull and East Riding in GP surgeries, hospitals and community centres. The service is comprehensive and successful, with over 65% of clients stopping smoking.

The Hull and East Riding Stop Smoking Service was launched in November 1999 and has already helped over 24,000 smokers to quit. (Data to 30th September 2008). Of those who set a quit date with the Service nearly 70% succeed in quitting.

In the Yorkshire and Humber region 23% of the adult population smokes. Amongst those that have routine or manual jobs the figure is much, much higher. In the Hull and East Yorkshire area it is estimated that the number is closer to 30% on average with smoking prevalence in some wards exceeding 50%.

With our help a smoker is FOUR times more likely to quit than if going it alone. To help smokers find the right support for them, the service runs approximately 80 sessions every week in over 40 community based venues throughout Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.
