What Smokers Can Expect From The Service
Everyone’s different. This is why we offer a range of free services to suit people who are ready to quit:
Stopping in a Group
Joining a stop smoking group means you can share tips and ideas on dealing with cravings with other people who are trying to quit, whilst also receiving practical help from a Stop Smoking Specialist.
Group courses run for 6 weeks, for approximately 1 hour per week and can include up to 12 clients. In addition, clients are able to obtain Nicotine Replacement Products (NRT) like patches or gum free of charge to help with cravings.
A typical programme would consist of the following:
- Week one – Preparation: Clients are asked to complete a ‘smoker’s diary’ and start to break habits. Some people may choose to set a quit date straight away.
- Week Two – Discussion and practical help: Therapies/medication are discussed.
- Week Three – Quit dates are set if they haven’t been already: Habits discussed and possible withdrawal symptoms dealt with.
- Week Four – Stressful situations: How to cope.
- Week Five – Weight gain worries: Healthy eating and exercise.
- Week Six – Coping in the long term: Successful quitters receive a Certificate of Achievement.
Stopping One-to-One
Some people prefer one-to-one help. The service offers Walk-In centres which require no appointments and are local and convenient for busy lives.
We are expanding our ‘Walk-In’ service which is designed to support smokers who are unable to access the normal community-based sessions. Smokers can turn up at the Walk-in sessions without an appointment and will be offered six weeks support on a one-to-one basis for 10-15 minutes each session. Carbon monoxide readings are offered and all stop smoking products are available including free NRT (terms and conditions apply).
Quit Buddy
Quit Buddy offers you support and information via your mobile phone and is designed to help you stay on track whilst quitting. Registration is easy.
All you need to do is text the word BUDDY to 61825* and arrange a visit to Health Central on Ferensway in Hull to get signed up. (*normal network rates apply)
Telephone and Online Help
In the comfort of their own home, they can get one-to-one telephone help from a trained specialist or quit online today.
Whilst for many people having face to face contact can be very helpful, not everyone wants to go and see someone in person to help them quit smoking. We also offer two programmes that might suit some people more. If they can access the internet then they have the option of tailor made support online right now. If they prefer to talk to someone in person- our telephone support might be for them.
In addition to this we also have a Smokefree Families Team who offer specialist help to pregnant smokers, their partner and family members.
If you require any more information about any of this, please contact us.
